To be able to take astronomical photos, the earth's rotation must be compensated. Often the problem arises that the stars appear to rotate from the observer's point of view and therefore the stars disappear from the camera's field of view. To prevent this from happening, a device must be designed that can rotate exactly 360 degrees in 24 hours. To make this possible, vhw Digitalart decided to use the igus RL-D-20 swivel bearing as a stable support for the camera and lens. This guarantees a loss-free rotation of the gears and the surfaces of the gears do not touch each other.
